Macular Degeneration slowly causes the loss of vision. It is the biggest cause of vision loss for adults over the age of sixty. It is due to the deterioration of the eyes macular, which is a small area within the eye that is responsible for central vision and the ability to see finer details.
Macular Degeneration is caused by deposits of abnormal blood vessels under the retina. There are no treatments for Macular Degeneration; however there are some options that can slow down the progression.
Some symptoms of macular degeneration: blurriness, distortion of central visiona and eventually loss of central vision.

Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases that cause loss of vision if not treated. It is caused by a build up of fluid which leads to increased pressure in the eye this can lead to damage of the optic nerve. The loss of vision is gradual and the vision from the sides of the eyes (peripheral) may be lost before the disease is diagnosed. There is an 8 times increased risk of direct family members developing Glaucoma.
Treatment can include; eye drops, laser surgery and conventional surgery.
Some symptoms of Glaucoma: distorted vision, blurred vision and sometimes Glaucoma can have no symptoms other than slow vision loss.
